First masterclass dedicated to an Italian wine in the prestigious American university
A milestone for Italian wine in the United States: for the first time in history, Harvard University will host a masterclass dedicated to Barolo, one of the most prestigious denominations in the Italian wine scene. The event, scheduled for Thursday, March 27, is the result of the collaboration between the Order of the Knights of the Truffle and the Wines of Alba, the Consorzio di Tutela Barolo Barbaresco Alba Langhe and Dogliani, and the Harvard Wine Society. During the masterclass, the President of the Consortium and Knight Sergio Germano together with Maestro Peter Salerno of the New York Delegation of the Knights, will guide participants through a sensory journey to discover the 2021 vintage – just released on the market – presenting four Barolo DOCG with Menzione Geografica Aggiuntiva Comunale. The event will include a detailed tasting that will highlight the peculiarities of each production area. The masterclass, in fact, will not be limited to tasting only: particular attention will be paid to the presentation of the Langhe territory and the history of the Order of the Knights of the Truffle and Wines of Alba, an association that today boasts 20 Delegations around the world and the Consortium of Protection that for 90 years has protected and promoted 9 denominations, primarily Barolo DOCG and Barbaresco DOCG. The Order plays a fundamental role in the promotion and preservation of the food and wine traditions of the Alba territory, contributing to their diffusion at an international level.
Peter Salerno, Master of the New York Delegation, explains: “This masterclass at Harvard represents a significant milestone for the Order of the Knights of Alba in the United States. With our growing presence in major American cities, we are seeing unprecedented interest in the wines and gastronomic traditions of Alba. This collaboration with Harvard University and the Consortium allows us to fulfill our mission of educating and sharing the excellence of Barolo with future leaders in the world of business and finance.”
Sergio Germano, President of the Consorzio di Tutela Barolo Barbaresco Alba Langhe e Dogliani, comments: “The United States continues to be one of the reference markets for our denominations and in particular for Barolo DOCG. The export data speak for themselves: more than 19% of production reaches American consumers and this interest from Harvard University can only make us proud and offer us a further, prestigious recognition. We are happy to be present on this occasion with the Cavalieri del Tartufo, our excellent collaborators in spreading knowledge of the Langhe throughout the world”.
