History professor at the University of Milan Blythe Alice Raviola was the guest of honour, on Sunday 26 November, of the 313th Chapter of the White Truffle of Alba convened by the Grand Master of the Order of the Knights of the Truffle and Wines of Alba, Tomaso Zanoletti, in the Conference Room of the Grinzane Cavour Castle. Professor Raviola accompanied those present on a journey through the history of the excellences of Monferrato with a report entitled “Tersifole”, “artichiochi” and “moscadello”: excellences of Monferrato at the time of the Paleologi and the Gonzagas”.

“A conference much appreciated by the vast audience who participated in the Chapter – underlines Grand Master Zanoletti -. Professor Raviola carefully sifted through archives and documents, illustrating in an original way some aspects of daily life and agriculture during the dynasty of the Marquises Paleologi, who ruled between 1306 and 1533, giving a fundamental impulse to the cultural life of the own court and helping to write an important chapter of the Italian Renaissance”.

During the Chapter, Grand Master Zanoletti presented the Collar of Knight to 6 Postulants and that of Honorary Knight to Professor Raviola and Giuliano Viglione, president of the CRC Donare Foundation and of the Albesi Traders Association. The 313th Chapter also offered the opportunity to welcome numerous foreign guests such as the Knights of the Swiss and Austrian Delegations and some Knights from the Delegations of Hong Kong, San Francisco and the newly established London Delegation.

The meeting ended at the table in the Sala Cavour and in the historic Sala delle Maschere with an aperitif and lunch by Chef Alessandro Mecca, from the Castle restaurant, where they were tasted, paired with the dishes and the precious White Truffle d’Alba, some of the winning wines of the 48th Selection, awarded by the Order’s Tasting Commission.
